The off-shore sand obtained from the Kerawalapitiya is washed and sieved at the Washing & Sieving plant which is situated at Kerawalapitiya. Currently the washing and sieving plant supplies around 600 cubes per day. This off-shore sand is sold under the brand name “Sanstha Weli”, complying with the specification issued by Sri Lanka Standard Institution (SLSI) for fine aggregates for concrete and mortar (SLS 1397:2010). Further “Sanstha Weli” has been awarded the SLS Certificate from SLSI and “Green Label Certificate” from Green Building Council of Sri Lanka as an Eco-friendly product.
The demand for off-shore sand has been tremendously increased in past few years due to its price and the change in the perception amongst the public regarding the suitability of sand for construction work.
